What is an EV fire limitation blanket, and why choose Fire Cloak™?
An EV fire blanket is a specialist safety product designed to contain lithium battery fires — particularly in electric vehicles. Fire Cloak™ is certified to DIN SPEC 91489:2024-11, tested to withstand over 1,000°C, and trusted by emergency services, insurers, and fleet operators worldwide. Whether you’re protecting people, vehicles, or infrastructure, Fire Cloak™ enables rapid deployment and proven protection when it matters most.

Product & Use

Fire Cloak™ is designed for all motor vehicle types including electric and hybrids — from passenger cars to SUVs, light commercials, vans, minibuses, MPVs and specialist fleet vehicles. For non-standard vehicles, we also offer made-to-measure options.

Two people can deploy Fire Cloak™ quickly and safely. The blankets are designed with reinforced pull handles to allow controlled, simple deployment even in emergency conditions.

We are often asked if our Fire Cloak™ Electric Vehicle Fire Blanket can be used multiple times.

The answer is dependent on the situation in which the Fire Cloak is deployed:

  • If the Fire Cloak™ is used to isolate a suspicious vehicle that is exhibiting an elevated battery temperature according to a Thermal Imaging Camera reading or hissing/popping sounds can be heard and the vehicle does NOT burst into flames, the answer is YES it can be reused! However, the Fire Cloak™ should be checked for signs of mechanical damage or heat degradation before storage.
  • If the Fire Cloak™ is used to isolate a vehicle that ultimately sets on fire or is already alight the material will be heavily contaminated after use. There will probably be deposits of Heavy Metals such as Nickel, Manganese and Cobalt along with other chemicals that could include HF Acid, Organic Carbonates (solvents) and PCB’s. ANY Electric Vehicle Fire Blanket would then need to be decontaminated before reuse, which is a specialised and expensive process.

The size depends on the type of vehicles you need to cover. We offer three standard sizes to suit everything from passenger cars to large panel vans, plus fully made-to-measure options for unique requirements. If you’re unsure, contact our product specialist for advice.
